The material pairing is the whole strategy. PE rattan is plastic wicker engineered to sit outside — it does not absorb water, crack in the cold or bleach in the sun the way natural cane does — and the steel skeleton underneath carries the actual load while resisting rust through its powder coat. The seat cushions are thick pads in zippered covers that come off and go in the washing machine, and the four pieces are modular, so the same set arranges around a balcony rail, a porch corner or a poolside deck.
The dossier
Natural wicker is an indoor material that furniture marketing dragged outdoors; polyethylene rattan is the corrected version. It is extruded plastic fiber woven exactly like cane, but it sheds rain, ignores humidity and holds its color through UV exposure. Woven over steel rather than a woven-only shell, it gives the set its shape and skin while the frame does the structural work — the reason these sets survive seasons that destroy cheaper all-plastic furniture.
A sectional commits you to one L-shaped arrangement forever. Owner questions
The rattan and powder-coated steel are built for outdoor exposure. The set will live outside through the season without complaint; covering it or storing cushions indoors over winter extends its life further.
Unzip the covers, pull them off and machine-wash them. The rattan itself rinses with a hose or wipes with soapy water, and the glass table top takes a standard glass cleaner.
It is a bolt-together job with all hardware included — straightforward but real. Thread all bolts loosely first, square each piece up, then tighten evenly.
